Barnstable Senior Center Annual Open House & Community Awareness Day Cook Out

Friday, June 12th
12:00 pm – 3:00 pm
At the Barnstable Senior Center
825 Falmouth Rd., Hyannis

HYANNIS – The Barnstable Senior Center will host our Annual Open House & Community Awareness Day Cook Out, on Friday, June 12th starting at noon.

The BSC celebrates community by awarding the Boston Post Cane Award, bestowed to the oldest resident of the Town of Barnstable, The Spirit of Ruth Rusher Award, presented to a senior who embodies the spirit and dignity in aging exemplified by the late Ruth Rusher and the Legacy Award, given to a local business or organization that has positively impacted the lives of Barnstable’s senior citizens.

Please take this opportunity to tour your Senior Center and learn about all the progressive, as well as, affordable programs we have to offer. The Barnstable Senior Center is not just for Seniors, don’t let the name fool you!

Free hot dogs and burgers on the grill will be served by the Break Away Grill and Larry Swain will perform live Dixieland music. This is a free event and open to the public.

hyannis public library funding

Like towns all over Massachusetts and across the country, Barnstable is making deep cuts throughout all departments and funding this year.

The town provides funding  to the libraries each year that is distrubed via a formula set by the Library Committee, a town-wide committee made up of trustees from each library. The formula is developed by the library committee without oversight or input from the town council or the town manager.

This year the town has had to cut the overall library funding budget by 4% – similar to the cuts made in all town departments.  Additionally, it appears that the library committee has made a change to the formula.  All of this has resulted in a more significant loss of Continue reading hyannis public library funding…
