The Public Health Division announced this afternoon the first West Nile virus (WNV) positive bird of 2008 in the Town of Barnstable, Cummaquid area. In 2007, 3059 dead birds were reported to MDPH and forty-three tested positive for WNV. No birds submitted from the Town of Barnstable were positive for WNV in 2007.

Cape Cod Mosquito Control was contacted. They will treat catch basins with larvicides in the area tomorrow morning.
