Town of Barnstable 4th of July Activities

HYANNIS, MA - The following is a calendar of events in the Town of Barnstable for the 4th of July and surrounding dates as compiled by the Community Services Department and based on information submitted to this office as of June 12, 2008.

The Town’s fireworks are being shot off a barge in Lewis Bay. This year’s fireworks are sponsored by the Town of Barnstable. Important parking information is included in this advisory.

FIREWORKS DISPLAY: Saturday, July 5, 2008 (Rain date: Sunday, July 6, 2008 )

Best Viewing: The main viewing locations for this year’s fireworks will be Aselton Park, Bismore Park, and Veteran’s Park Beach.

Fireworks Parking (Barnstable): A Parking Ban will be in effect South of South Street (Ocean Street, Old Colony Road and Kalmus Beach) from 5 p.m. to midnight. Parking will be available in the North Street parking lots and Town Hall parking lot. Tow Zones Strictly Enforced. Carpooling Suggested.

Rain Date: In the event of inclement weather, the fireworks will be rescheduled to Sunday, July 6th at the same time. Notification will be made to all radio stations and other media immediately upon cancellation in an effort to let spectators know as far in advance as possible.

SPECIAL FREE CONCERT INFORMATION

The Cape Cod Symphony Orchestra, the Town of Barnstable, and the Bilezikian Family Foundation will hold a free concert with live symphonic music and fireworks, at Aselton Park overlooking Hyannis Harbor, 5:30-9:45 p.m. on Saturday, July 5.

The Cape Cod Symphony Orchestra (CCSO), under the baton of Guest Conductor Laureate Royston Nash, will perform traditional pops favorites, including America the Beautiful and Stars and Stripes Forever, beginning at 7:30 p.m. Guest Conductor John Klimm, Barnstable Town Manager, will lead the orchestra in a special musical selection. The festivities will conclude with a breathtaking 30-minute fireworks display above Hyannis Harbor, with the CCSO providing a rousing score. “We’re extremely pleased to have the opportunity to play at this event,” said CCSO President Gerald Garnick. “Pairing the Orchestra with fireworks on July Fourth Weekend is a new experience for us, and a thrilling one.”

The Cape Cod Conservatory Jazz Band will perform Big Band jazz tunes from 5:30-6:30 p.m., with the Conservatory Chorale joining the band for a finale. “We’re very pleased to showcase this joint performance of the chorale and band,” said Conservatory Board Chair Doreen Bilezikian.

FRIDAY, JULY 4, 2008
Parades and Other Daytime Events:
Barnstable Village – Parade starting at 9:30 a.m.

Presented by the Barnstable-West Barnstable  July 4th Parade Committee

The parade will commence at 9:30 a.m. at the County Complex on Railroad Avenue; proceed down Main Street (Route 6A); left onto Mill Way and continue to the Village Hollow where it will end for various activities.

Preceding the parade will be the presentation of the Mercy Otis Warren Cape Cod Woman of the Year Award at 8:30 a.m. on the grounds of the Superior Courthouse.

Centerville - Parade starting at 10:00 a.m.

Presented by the Centerville Civic Association / Bay Lane PTA

The parade will form on the grounds of Centerville Elementary School and proceed up Bay Lane, take a right onto Bumps River Road; left onto Park Avenue; right onto Main Street; and continue to the Centerville Recreation Building where it will end for field events.

Cotuit – Parade starting at 11:00 a.m.

Presented by the Cotuit Civic Association

The parade will begin at the Cotuit Post Office, proceed down School Street to Main Street; left on Main Street to the rear entrance of the Cotuit Elementary School, where it will end.

Hyannisport –Parade starting at 11:00 a.m.

Presented by the Hyannisport Civic Association

& West Beach Club

The parade will begin at the Hyannisport Post Office on Longwood Avenue; left onto Washington Avenue; right onto Lafayette Avenue; left onto Winchester Avenue; left onto Scudder Avenue; and continue onto Dale Avenue to the West Beach Club, where it will end. A Road Race starting at 9:00 a.m. at Hyannisport Post Office precedes the parade.

Osterville – Parade starting at 11:00 a.m.

Presented by the Wianno Club

The parade route will begin on Webster Street in Osterville; turn right onto Sea View Avenue; turn right onto Warren Street, where the parade will end.

“Seven Villages – One All-America City” Parade – 4 p.m.

Presented by Town of Barnstable 4th of July Parade Committee

Sponsored by Baxter’s Cape Cod, Greater Hyannis Civic Association, Hyannis Main Street Business Improvement District, and supported by the Cape Cod Times, the Barnstable Patriot, WQRC, and many local businesses.

Hyannis Main Street – This year’s parade features bands and lots of music, including the Spirit of America Band, Barnstable High School Band, Dennis-Yarmouth High School Band. Parade Grand Marshall – The Scudder Family. Come early, shop and dine on Main Street. Parade marchers will gather on Old Colony Road, and follow Old Colony Road to Main Street, take a left on to Main Street; left onto Sea Street; left onto South Street and autos will end at the Town Hall parking lot where it will disband.

Parade Parking: Public Parking on North Street. Carpooling Suggested. Tow Zone Strictly Enforced.

July 4th– Parking Ban from 2:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Main Street, Hyannis. Main Street and South Street will be closed to motor vehicle traffic. Also all of Main Street; Old Colony Road and Ocean Street from South Street to Main Street will be closed to motor vehicle traffic beginning at 3 p.m.
