city council shooting ….in memory of

Five people participating in a city council meeting in Kirkwood, MO — two city councilors, the director of public works and two police officers — were shot by a gunman with a history of complaints against the city.  The following are stories that give a little background about each one.  

Connie Karr:

          Missouri tragedy hits close to home  

February 10, 2008 :   She recited the Pledge of Allegiance, and then a man walked in and shot her.  Connie Conroy Karr led a wonderful life until Thursday, when a disturbed person put an end to it. I knew her dad, Bill Conroy, who coached the American Legion baseball team in Park Forest that I covered for my local newspaper as a kid.

Kenneth Yost

 Public works director liked to help others

Ken Yost was the quiet one. His wife of 40 years, Cathy Yost, is more outgoing, gregarious.
They were a perfect match, friends say.

  6. Officer Tom Ballman is my only son. He loved his police work, he loved his wife, he loved his 3 yr old daughter Rachel and his 5 yr. old son Joshua. His sisters miss him so much. I love him so much and miss him so much too. As you know, its very hard to bury your child and I had no idea just how hard it is. My live is so changed. I miss talking to him and listening to his funny stories.
    Just know my Son that you are ALWAYS in my thoughts.

  7. Bill Biggs was my uncle. He taught me a lot of things about having a good time. He will always be remembered and will always be a hero.
