a (final?) discussion about hate blogs ….

 ……  should these people be taking costly staff  time  and energy in their continued effort to garner attention? Is this what you want your town staff and officials to be doing with their time?

There are some councilors who have let me know they are uncomfortable with me discussing these hate-bloggers on my own blog.

I agree, I would like to use this blog as a tool to disseminate information about our town, positions on current town issues, and personal observations about life……  I don’t want to rehash negative trash talk being spewed on other blogs.  These fellows lost their races for office. The people have spoken.  But they won’t let it go.

I realize this only feeds their need for attention, and I hope to make this my last or one of my last posts about these men.

 In the past 24 hours John Julius has posted several comments on this blog which I have refused to moderate, I couldn’t even edit them to keep them w/in my own standards, and within the standards of WordPress’s Terms of Service (TOS). So they didn’t make it to the page for all to read.  His personal attacks on people, his use of profanity and insults are not going to make it to the pages of this blog, unless we are looking at them as examples of costly staff time as used below.

These guys who seem to have way too much time on their hands have found ways to be disruptive to the management of this town, and ultimately cost this town money and staff time, again!

Therefore, I will reluctantly consider Schwaab’s hate blog as there ARE two issues that I do feel we need to bring to light.

1. John Julius and the fact that he is holding John Klimm’s cell phone number hostage. 

John Klimm is on vacation now, and through the holiday. He will not be available via cell or work phone, there are managers on duty whose cell phone numbers are not available to the public.

John Julius has announced after calling John Klimm’s cell phone that if he doesn’t get a return call from Klimm today he is going to post John Klimm’s cell phone number on blogs.

How is this going to help the rest of the town? This cell phone number is private, we know who gave Julius that number and will be sure to address that outside of the blog spotlight.

Do the residents of this town want their town manager fielding calls from people like John Julius night and day?

Should John Klimm be dealing with ”cogger’s” persistent phone calls during times when he is managing a crisis?

No. But now it has become a childish game for Julius.  Call the cell phone and leave a message – then leave a comment laced with threats on a blog saying he just made that call.  Does he think the town manager is sitting with his feet up someplace reading every post Julius leaves on a blog? 

Apparently, at 4 pm yesterday, Julius posted a comment for all to read saying that if he didn’t hear from Klimm he would post the manager’s cell phone number for anyone to use.  The manager was in meetings in and out of the office most of yesterday, then left to spend the holidays with his family.

 All of this behavior was shared with me last night when someone sent me a series of comments Julius left on either Lopez or Schwaab’s hate blog. **

Do the residents of this town want our staff dealing with this type of distraction?  Let me know what you think. 

2. Schwaab attempts to declare the election unfair, and refuses to accept the loss, should he be using town staff and taxpayer money to “investigate” these claims?

Eric Schwaab has started a bizarre letter-writing campaign, claiming that there were “cyber hate crimes” committed against him and other rather paranoid induced accusations that he claims effected the outcome of the election.

He wanted the Town Manager to delay “certifying” the election.  The town manager doesn’t “certify” the election. The results are confirmed by the independently elected town clerk the night of the election. The manager has nothing to do with the oversight of elections.

The ballots weren’t close enough to warrant a recount, so we are left to wonder what he doesn’t get.  He simply cannot accept defeat, and has been trying to blame others for that loss since the moment he discovered his the vote count was not in his favor. 

He is as responsible for his own loss, as much as Julius is responsible for HIS own loss. The conspiracy theories, hate and embarrassingly foul and childish language and behavior has been dragging them down since the start. 

Now Schwaab is claiming that a large conspiracy was responsible for his loss, citing incidents as follows in exerpts from a letter he has supposedly sent to William Galvin, Secretary of State:

Voter Intimidation – Forced entry of homes, home “visits”, threatening anonymous phone calls, “hate” mail and selective media shut-down (print, radio, and Web).

Use of municipal services– Selective use of Town services including the Building Inspector, Town Crossing Guards, and the Barnstable Police (Filing of false police reports).

Cyber-hate crimes– Patterned intimidation online including cyber staking and “hate” comments timed to influence the outcome of Precinct election.

Influence over water test result reports – Coordinated effort to influence timing of water tests and the release of public information on these tests on 10/25 – 10/26/2007 and subsequent efforts to cover-up this effort following the election from 11/5-11/15/2007.

In other letters to Linda Hutchenrider and John Klimm, Schwaab also claims that a large number of voters showed up at the polls later in the day, the day of the elections, and he believes they were there to vote for his opponent.  He sees some sort of conspiracy there.  Like what? People who work for a living and vote after work were voting for his opponent? 

He claims conspiracies in the removal of signs from public property….. signs have to be placed on private property. This is an issue that is explained in material given to all residents who turn in signatures to be placed on a ballot.

And, he is now claiming that the timing of the water tests was coordinated with the election!    How many people are involved his in his supposed conspiracy? Is he suggesting that people were at risk and no one reported it because they wanted to wait until after the election?   Does anyone believe that there is a conspiracy running that deep where people would actually risk their careers to be a part of such a conspiracy?  Does anyone believe that that many people were convinced he might actually win and went to these great lengths to prevent him from winning?

This is all bordering on paranoia….

Residency Questions

Schwaab also shared a letter from the town assessor that answers his questions about his residential exemption.  He gets the residential exemption on his home in Boston (Brighton). This is public information available on the city of Boston’s website.

And, now he wants to get the residential exemption on his Hyannis home as well?  Sure, why not?  His wife is a registered voter in Boston, and he is registered here, so even though they own their homes jointly, why not have one declare the exemption in one municipality, and the other in another municipality?

The issue of residency should be one taken up by the charter commission.  Just what does it take to establish residency to run for office?  

Schwaab made a public fuss about being given the residential exemption in error.  He made it clear to all on his blog, and in the papers, that his tax bills,  go to his Hyannis address but are forwarded to Boston.

He made it clear, publicly, that the town made an error in assuming he was a resident of Hyannis, when his primary residence is in Boston.   The residential exemption is given to a person for his primary residence, which Schwaab declares is in the Brighton section Boston. 

But because the mailing address for his tax bill was in Hyannis, the tax office in the first two years of the residential exemption assumed his Hyannis home was a primary home. Schwaab finally corrected this error after recieving the 20% tax discount, the residential exemption, on both of his homes for two years. 

He pays excise taxes on both of his cars in Boston. According to my husband who has worked all over Boston, to park in the Brighton area, you need a city of Boston parking sticker to prove you are a resident of Boston. Do both of Schwaab’s cars have those stickers? 

He claims a home office in Boston, so if he works, he works from his primary home in Boston and probably gets some sort of tax break there when he claims an office in his primary home.

Seems that he is getting all kinds of breaks for being a primary resident of Boston, but he has established himself as a resident of Hyannis – and ran for office here, even though it appears he is really a resident of Boston……

What is going on here?

 I hate to put anymore effort into this, to draw anymore attention to this man and his antics. But both he and Julius are costing the taxpayers more town staff time/money as they continue to claim conspiracies against them. 

How do we stop this? Ignoring them might work, but how do we stop them from costing us all money?

The voters chose not to support them.  They both lost the elections. They want to blame others for their losses.

They have no one to blame but themselves.

This town wants people who will work together to find solutions.  Not people who want to scream and yell, blame and divide, claim conspiracies and corruptions — and who offer no useful solutions.


I hope that these blogs, The Barnstable Beat — The BarnstableBog  – Barnstableblogblaster, truthaboutprecint3 will each continue to examine the actions of these two and that of the councilor who wants to be a mayor.

I want to get back to focusing  on the issues important to me as a councilor.

**These are comments that were emailed to me made by John Julius on one of the two hate blogs, not sure which one, regarding the Town Manager’s cell phone:

“WE at COG BELIEVE: in doing things OPENLY AND HONESTLY… I called Manager John KLIMM on his CELL phone just ten minutes ago. He did not answer. I left him a pleasant message and asked him to return my call. I HAVE A WITNESS to both my call and that I was polite and professional.

All I want to do is ask Manager some questions and MAYBE set up an appointment to go CHAT with him about the Barlaco land.

Anyone think he will return my call!

As for me calling him on his CELL….. too bad. I happen to have. I happen t PAY HIS $ 130++ K a year salary. WE PAY for THAT CELL. And I know from many others that he has a HABIT of not returning the REGULAR calls to town hall…

So Mr. Klimm, I DO DESERVE a RETURN call from you, like it or not! I PAY your GREAT salary so the LEAST you can do is RETURN MY CALL!

And in the future, IF any other disasters occur, TRUST ME, I WILL CALL YOU AGAIN! It is JOHN KLIMM’s JOB, like it or not!

When I called him last SUNDAY, his response was , ” this is not the “appropriate’ time. Oh, REALLY? NOT the appropriate time? The GD water is CONTAMINATED! It had better NOT happen again.

Now John Klimm, ALL EYES and EARS are on you!

“I never did get a return call from Manager Klimm. I left him two messages, one on his cell and the other with his secretary at town hall. John, MY CELL is on and if you fail to return my call, TRUST me, I WILL BE CALLING you all weekend. Like I said, I HELP pay your $ 130K salary each year and you need to be accountable to us all.

If John thinks otherwise, try me. I will post his cell here and everywhere. Righ now he IS the Town Manager and I deserve some answers as we ALL do.

Call me Mr. Klimm or I will call you tommorow at 8 sharp. I don’t like having contaminated water and NO ANSWERS!

    Thank you for the very complete clarification of your status. You are quite correct in assuming that property owners are not allowed to claim more than one property as a primary residence. Given that your Boston residence will continue with a residential exemption, it is fortunate that your 157 Melbourne Road property does not have the exemption applied to the property for the current fiscal year, 2008, so there’s nothing to correct and no money involved for this. Also, since the Town Council voted last year to exempt all personal property valued under $10,000, you will not receive a personal property bill for FY2008 and will be highly unlikely to receive one in the future, even though the personal property account will continue to exist in the records. It also appears that all your preliminary real estate tax payments have been made and that you are current with your real property tax obligations. I would recommend that you contact the Collector’s office if you have concerns about any other tax obligations you feel might be in arrears. Their number is 508-862-4054.

    Why does anyone have to answer to any of this? Let Bill Galvin deal with him. Julius? well that guy needs a different kind of dealing with.
    he is a complete itdiot and whoever is giving out cell numbers that are not to be given out should be punished! was this a council person or a staff person? who ever did it has to be dealt with promptly. You are right it costs all of us money when idiots do stuff like giving out private phone numbers an allow people like John immature Julius to be calling at all hours and interfere with work.

    His whole candidicy was a scam.
    People should realize that he scams and that is a way of life, so he thinks that way. In his mind others scam him… he thinks others are operating like him and is accusing people of doing the kinds of things he would do.

  9. Janet, let me start by saying this; Thoman’s son has never been targeted, called names or even spoken to by me or my husband. The vulgar things that Mr. Wilcox, Thoman’s husband uttered from his mouth election day, made my ten year old cry. These people use there son as a “trump card” to gain sympathy. Their son has been out riding his bike by himself on our road while we have been outside, not seeming at all afraid. I hope poeple are smart enough for Thoman’s drama. She was the one that put him on youtube for political purposes. We have the entire neighborhood to back us up. She tried to get injunctive relief in the form of a restraining order in superior court and was DENIED. Once again NOBODY speaks to them. She put a video up on youtube disclosing my personal info, and writes childish comments under assumed names hourly. My reason for posting about this being was to let people know that when she was doing this to Janet, that she has a history of this behavior and to let Janet know she wasn’t alone. We have started nothing up in our neighborhood. She didn’t like that I campained against her and she’s mad. There has been nothing in our neighborhood other than Nov. 4 where SHE bumped me and then called the police, who didn’t even speak to me, and Nov 6 where her husband on 5 occasions was videotaping me. But when the camera turned to him, he didn’t like it. Her husband and mine had words between EACHOTHER, not the children. That has been it. She doesn’t want people to know the truth about what she’s done. I hope you don’t give her what she wants. She’ll still attack you, whether you give in or not.

    Just to let you know – I am not sure what this is in reference to, I am assuming that Taryn has some new blog or you tube video – my guess is that she sees that Eric is still managing to get attention and she wants some to.

    I know you can’t ignore her because she lives next door, but no one else is paying attention to her. It is all very sad, actually. I have never met her, have seen her once briefly behind a the glaring light of some wierd video camera.

    Bottom line is that she, along with Julius and Schwaab are still grasping for attention while the rest of those who were elected move along and get to work.

    Ingore her the best you can with cameras rolling on everything you do….know that the rest of us know what she is all about.

It’s hard when she accuses people of harming her child, as you know, when NOTHING was done to her child. Moving on, I will have to see Fiddler on the Roof!   12. Well, I understand she might be mimicking another nut on another blog, something about an open letter…. its not an open letter to ME if I am not going to read it.
    One of the other Hate Blog Monitors was kind enough to tell me about it, but I told him I wasn’t interested in reading any of their stuff tonight, or tomorrow, or at all. The last thing I read from Julius involved him typing some abhorant stuff about Bob Smith and that convinces me that he has dipped down to the lowest of lows.
    I am not interested anymore.
    I don’t care what he has to say, and what he threatens to do, nor do I care what Thoman is threatening.

    There are more important things to worry about.
    Schwaab has me concerend because there is a possibility that in is lastest thrust for attention he will again cost us staff time/money, and I think we need to call an end to this.

    He may have an unlimited supply of someone else’s money, but the rest of us don’t.

    These guys can throw temper tantrums, scream, yell, stomp feet, use profanity, and make crazy accusations, and spout loonie new conspiracy theories, but, like most of us, I have work to do, and family coming home ….. too bad these guys don’t get it, the people spoke to them with their votes.
    The voters said, “sorry, but we aren’t interested”
    and neither am I..

  13. I am glad to see that you guys are going to turn the ligts out on these people. I have had dealings with Taryn Thoman. She routinely goes after people attacking them at every turn. My child used to attend pre-school at St. Peters Church and Taryn Thoman is well known for her antics and odd behavior. She would speak about her issues openly as if we should be impressed. My child was invited to bithday parties at her home but I would not entertain the thought of putting my child in that situation. My advice would be to stick to your guns and ignore her completely as I did. It takes a while but she will get the point. I do not personally know the others that you have mentioned but if they keep her as company, I can only imagine. As the saying goes, “show me your friends and I will tell you what you are.” God bless.

  15. Unfortunatley, a recall isn’t just a matter of passing around a petition, there are some parametors as stated in the town charter found linked from the town website – the first section of the Charter explains that a person cannot be recalled within 6 months of the election.

    The recall has to begin with a legal affidavit submitted by a resident of the precint with 50+ signatures of people who are advised they are signing a legal document.

    HEELLLOOOO!!!! GREG!!!!!! what about the park on main street, what about the roads, the docks, Hyline, the business that are failing and forcing us to move, what about the sewer and lack there-of, the water, where were you when we needed you last weekend????

    What do you look like? Oh, yeah, All I have to do is look in the paper for your mug shot!!

    It is all about you, Greg. You want to do this charter thing and you don’t care about being a councilor. Let someone else do it without threatening them with you thug friends!!!!!
