“in papelbon we trust”
June 29, 2007 at 11:24 pm | In barnstable town council, papelbon, red sox, red sox fan |
…that was the statement on the cover of a Boston Phoenix early in the season - my husband brought it home from work, knowing it would make me smile.
We were thrilled to see him this spring as he came in to follow Wake at an interleague game during spring training. We didn’t know he would be there and we were in an up-close-and-personal seat, in an already up-close-and-personal stadium. He has such a spectacular form as he throws using his full extention, but the power of his pitch is in his full concentration — that “wolf” stare as he works the signals with Veriteck and the follow through with his eye on the target.
Tonight he showed how wound up he is when he let loose at the 1st base ump. That play was so close -without instant replay it could only be called a tie- but Pap knew he got the out while the ump called the runner safe, and Pap lost it – yelling and flailing at the ump, showing us how tightly he is wound. After a short but intense rant, with a little help from his teammates, he quickly let it go and resumed his focus.
Yet another example the rest of us might consider in our every-day life. Especially those who are wound too tight. Sometimes you have to let it go - do that quick focus on priorities and move along. Pick your battles.
The kid picked his battle tonight - and won.

welcome to my blog
Sevenvillages blog was started in response to the negative posts on "hate-blogs", but has become a place for discussion about issues, problems, and solutions that face our town.
The views and opinions reflected in articles and posts on this site do not represent the entire town council, but simply personal perspectives.
Peace is always possible.
